If you’ve built a site with me, you already know I’ve always recommended WP Engine as the #1 choice when it comes to hosting websites for WordPress. You may already be on WP Engine as a result. This is because out of all the hosts I’ve dealt with in my 15+ years building WP sites, my experience has been that WP Engine offers the best infrastructure at the most reasonable price.
WP Engine is still the best host out there for WordPress. But what if you could enjoy the performance of a dedicated server on WP Engine for a fraction of the cost and save on retained hours with me at the same time?
If you’re on WPE, you’re probably on one of the shared plans. You also may have a yearly retainer with me for development work that you pay for separately.
What I’m offering in partnership with WP Engine is the chance to upgrade to a WP Engine dedicated server that I oversee. Here are the plans:
That’s 12 free retained hours a year (a value of $1800), plus hosting on a dedicated server with a 99.99% uptime SLA, 24/7 phone support with WP Engine, and unmetered* bandwidth and visits to your website.

When you open a hosting plan by yourself, WPE does a lot of the heavy lifting: most importantly, WordPress core and plugins are automatically updated and you get nightly backups. The plan should take care of itself, especially if you don’t anticipate any future development on the site or heavy increases in traffic. If you need my help, you can open a retainer for a minimum of 15 hours at my full retainer rate.
On the WP Engine dedicated server, you get everything in the Shared Plan, plus my oversight and WP Engine’s 99% uptime SLA.
Unlike in the Shared Plan, I personally oversee and have built the websites of all your neighbors on the server (no bad actors and no poorly performing websites to drag everyone down). If there’s a problem with the core or a plugin on upgrade, I’m available for a fix thanks to the included monthly hour of development in your plan (with a Managed Plan), even if you don’t have a retainer with me.
At this level, you get 24/7 phone support from WP Engine on the front lines, and me in your back pocket.
* I hate asterisk’d sales copy too, but the word “unmetered” (or “unlimited” in some cases) means something entirely different with web hosts than it does in the real world, and it’s important you’re aware of this. “Unmetered” here means WP Engine won’t enforce overages on bandwidth or traffic, so long as your website isn’t abusing the server’s resources or breaking the terms of service. If you suddenly exceed 1 million visits, for example, this may raise alarm bells that compromise the server, and we’d need to assess if migrating you onto your own dedicated server makes sense.
