Amanda Mcguire and Aaron Scott wanted to redesign their recipe blog to reach new clientele and to capture a bigger audience. Aaron created the visual design and I built the new WordPress theme.

Gutenberg gives Pickles & Honey a flexible way to assemble recipes, case studies, and pages for new offerings within WordPress. Mailchimp supports the blog’s email marketing, while Ninja Forms provides its forms, bringing publishing and reader contact into the same website.

Food and lifestyle media explore cooking, personal interests, leisure, and the habits and experiences that shape everyday life. My work includes recipe publications, documentary projects about family cooking traditions, and recreational fishing media.

I translated Aaron Scott’s visual design into a custom theme for Amanda Mcguire’s recipe blog, shaping the page-building experience around her publishing needs. The work brought interface design and responsive development together so recipes, case studies, and new services could share a flexible foundation.
Hot Out of the Kitchen
An early adopter of WordPress’ latest and greatest.
With the recent release of WordPress Gutenberg, I wanted to make sure that Amanda’s website took full advantage of WordPress’ built-in page builder. To that end, Amanda is able to construct her pages and recipes with Gutenberg blocks, which gives her great flexibility to construct case studies that have unique layouts, or spin up new services, such as a landing page for her SEO for Food Bloggers book. Gutenberg puts control back into the hands of users, without adding the bloat of third-party page builders of the past.
