Often overlooked in the web design process is that crucial step of actually populating your brand-spanking-new website with all those words and images and videos that will make it meansomething. Producing media at scale may require an investment in a great deal of creative muscle (or genAI tooling), but assembling a competent team to do the work can be as daunting as the work itself.
By tapping into my freelance network, I can bring together a crew of production assistants such as video and sound editors, graphic designers, and copywriters under a single umbrella, and even provide the expert oversight to make sure it all goes smoothly.
You don’t have to, if you don’t want to.
Who’s going to do the grunt work and wrestle with the CMS to enter all that content? Who’s going to size and export media into appropriate file formats, migrate 300 blog posts, and rework all the copy so that it makes sense in the context of a new block-based WordPress theme? The good news is, you don’t have to if you don’t want to. The varied backgrounds and experience of my production assistants make them both knowledgeable and resourceful in this capacity.
You benefit from a project lead who can translate the technical language of creatives into clear communications.
Project management provides the connective tissue that turns scattered creative labor into a finished body of work. I can coordinate production schedules, define scopes, manage handoffs, and act as the single point of accountability across all production assistants involved in the process. And whether I’m heading the account as your single point of contact (or one of the digital strategists from my network is filling that role), you benefit from a project lead who can translate the technical language of creatives into clear communications.
All production assistants operate under the direct oversight of the project manager, with an established cadence for online meetings and behind the scenes communications that keeps things moving smoothly. Rather than outsourcing project management overseas, I try to keep everything local and centralized, so we all share the same standard of excellence and investment in the project’s success.
40GRID required copywriting, illustration, and development in its startup debut, and so I served as a project manager coordinating multiple external contractors.
The practical work of getting material into the systems where it ultimately must live.
Content management focuses on the practical work of getting material into the systems where it ultimately must live. This includes CMS population, content migrations, structural rewrites, metadata cleanup, and adapting existing copy or media to fit the specifications of the new platform. It’s a necessary step in any redesign or replatforming project.
The process is handled by experienced production assistants who understand both the editorial intent and the technical constraints of your system. Each assistant is a member of my domestic freelance network and operates as a visible part of the team.
In this project, we had to safely migrate over 100,000 posts—twenty years of content!—while making sure the transition to the new site was seamless for its paid subscribers, who are served premium content through a light integration with Memberful.
Each editor involved is a specialist in their medium, working collaboratively under my direction as part of the larger team.
Multimedia editing covers the refinement and prep of visual and audio assets for final use in your project. This can include video and sound editing, image optimization, format conversion, and queuing media for distribution across social and other digital platforms. If you have raw or partially finished assets that need professional treatment to feel intentional and consistent, I select experts in my network who are a best fit, from video editors and graphic designers to copywriters and accessibility testers.
Rather than offshoring the labor, we prioritize local expertise. Each editor involved is a specialist in their medium, working collaboratively under my direction as part of the larger team.
My advice is always to leave the expert jobs to the experts. My freelance network includes domestic partners across multiple disciplines. I can oversee these third parties and make sure they do the right thing.
I appreciate [his] perseverance and understanding through it all … we are indeed proud of the final product.

While Devsec is a simple site from a technical perspective, we added visual complexity by introducing layers of graphical flourishes, motion graphics, and looping video to give it that science fiction feel.
